Nosferatu

Day 2 and we have got Nosferatu the 1922 film. A retelling of Bram Stoker’s Dracula story (which is a fantastic book by the way) we follow the story of Hutter as he is dispatched to “the mountains of Transylvania” to close a property deal on a house in his hometown of Wisbourg for a mysterious Count Orlok (played spectacularly by Max Schreck).

Using the score and some over the top acting the message of what is happening on screen as the Undead Master works his dark magic to get himself back to Hutter’s hometown and his wife who the Count has become smitten with. Usefully the Count is able to kill/feed under the guise of bodies being taken by The Black Death/Plague and makes it all the way back to Wisbourg.

Considering that this film was made nearly 100 years ago it is quite an achievement that it still works today. As a horror film, not so much but this is a fantastic piece of cinema history and is still really watchable.
